Stephanie is an organizer, writer, and film producer
leading strategic campaigns that use documentary films to build movement power.
She serves as Director of Film Impact and Innovation at Peace is Loud, where she oversees their documentary film impact campaigns and Collective Lens impact trainings.
Her current work focuses on helping filmmakers prioritize care for themselves and their film protagonists by integrating the pillars of equity, safety, and representation into all aspects of documentary filmmaking. The driving force behind Stephanie’s work is her own experience as the granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor, Erna Trocola, who was featured in Steven Spielberg’s documentary The Lost Children of Berlin. Witnessing the power of her grandmother’s storytelling on her family and the film’s audiences was foundational, and continues to fuel her today.
Before joining Peace is Loud, Stephanie was an archival producer and worked with filmmakers including Michael Moore, Tia Lessin, and Martin Scorsese. In addition, she is a former assistant editor at O, the Oprah Magazine, and a freelance writer published in The Believer and Vulture. She’s also been involved in community organizing for more than two decades, from organizing anti-sweatshop protests to building infrastructure for Occupy Wall Street’s public communications.
Stephanie is a proud member of FWD-DOC, one of DOC NYC's 2023 Documentary New Leaders, and a member of the Nominations Committee, Henry Awards, Shorenstein Center, Harvard Kennedy School. Past speaking engagements include Firelight Media, CAAM, The Gotham (formerly IFP), Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and Good Pitch.
